Ride Tomorrow to Support Green Commute Week

Elisa Hoekwater from the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council is organizing a bike ride for Green Commute Week which will be Saturday morning (7:45 - 8:30 am), leaving from the Civic Center and riding to Windmill Island.  They are extending an invitation to MCC members to participate. The purpose of the ride is to promote biking in the Holland and Zeeland area.  Right now they have a number of elected officials who will be participating and several families.  They put an ad in the Holland Sentinel to invite anyone else to ride along - and would love to see more cyclists! Afterward they will have a Bike Expo at the Civic Center - with speakers & demo’s from each of the local bike shops - and we’ll be awarding Green Commute awards to the employer who had the highest number of employees riding their bikes to work this week (as well as walking, carpooling, and taking the bus).

If you know of anyone who would like to join the bike ride, they can just plan to show up Saturday morning and they will leave at 8 am.

Thanks!

Monday Night Ride Starts Soon…See What’s New this Season!

Hello all, are you ready for the MNRide 2010!  6 years and still one of the best attended rides in West Michigan.

Some changes for this season and plenty to stay the same.

STAYS THE SAME

  • Groups stay the same.
  • Sport 1 is the first group, 21 mph average for 40 miles.  There is no sweep for this group.  If you fall off Sport 2 will be close behind.  Sport 1 will encourage staying together, but if you’re not feeling the love that night or you have a flat/mechanical trouble, the Sport 2 is just behind.
  • Sport 2 is second at 18 mph average for 35 miles.  Sometimes there is a sweep for this but not every week.  The route never changes so you’ll know the way back.
  • Sally’s Ride is the third group.  15 mph average for about 26 miles, no sweep but the group does stay together very well.
  • ROLL OUT 6:30!  Please be ready.

Also be prepared.  Tubes with the knowledge to use them.  A working bike and rider.  Water and food.

CHANGES FOR 2010

  • Hamilton Route every other week!  A popular route among many has been included for 2010.  All groups stay the same.  Sport 1 and 2 follow the same route.  Sally’s Ride route has yet to be determined.  Here’s the route: http://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/mi/holland/152127068834752282
  • New Richmond Bridge official route to cross the K-Zoo river.  We used 58th all last year because of park construction, but that is clean and clear now.  We’ll go straight through New Richmond and over the bridge.  Waiting on the other side is one of the steepest climbs with a stop ahead and glory for the first rider to the top.

We’ll ask all NON-club riders to please sign a waiver prior to riding.  Not a member?  $20.00 bucks gets you the whole year with no signing in.

THE FIRST MNRide IS MAY 3RD, THE FIRST MONDAY OF MAY!

Time to Renew Your Membership

Hey MCC Folks!
Before the season gets in full swing, take a few minutes to renew you MCC membership. We’ve made it easy to renew online, right here on our website. Your dues help us fund great events like the Holland Hundred Tour in July and the Kisscross Race in November. Dues also help us support local charities and cycling advocacy groups like LMB and MMBA. Membership also gets you access to great guest speakers at our monthly membership meetings, admission to “club only” parties and rides, and official club clothing. So help us support cycling in West Michigan by renewing today. Thanks for your support.
