January MCC Board Meeting Summary

Attendees: Kirk Walter, Tom Ayres, JD Stone, Marshall Michmerhuizen, Tim Meyer, Doug Spooner

  • Kirk Walter provided the club’s latest financial update. The club is in good financial health. The club currently has a positive bank balance of $22,854
  • Tom led the process of choosing new club officers. Marshall was elected President withTom and Kirk continuing in their current roles as Vice President/Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. All votes were unanimous.
  • Tom also led the process of divvying up job duties for the year. JD informed the board that due to outside demands he would be unable to chair the Holland 100 duties. The board agreed to begin a search among the membership to locate someone co-lead the Holland 100 duties with Doug Spooner. The rest of the club duties were decided as follows:
  1. Rides - Marshall (with some help from Tim)
  2. Advocacy - Managed by all, as needed
  3. Communications - Tom
  4. Monthly Meetings (Board & Membership) - Tim
  5. Holland 100 - TBD & Doug
  • Doug provided a Holland 100 update. Herman Miller has agreed to again participate as the title sponsor. In addition to the $3,500 sponsorship they will also allow the club to use the Greenhouse facility for the event. Several other event sponsors have also committed to the event including Upward Bound and East Saugatuck Christian Reformed Church. Several committee member spots have also been filled with commitments from Jean Schwartz, Tom Rich, Andrea Mireles (Upward Bound), Brad Spooner (Herman Miller) and Kim Bosch (ESCRC). The board agreed to once again offer free club membership to anyone taking a position on the committee.
  • Marshall provided a brief update on the Upper Mac trail project.
  • The board also decided to update and reprint the membership brochures. Tom volunteered to lead that effort by locating a printer and gather cost/design proposals
  • The board meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
The guest speakers for this month’s membership meeting was John Lindenmayer (League of Michigan Bicyclists) and Kimberly Kooyers from Ottawa County. Jon gave a detailed overview of their “Complete Streets” initiative. Kimberly discussed safe routes to school efforts by the county. The membership meeting concluded at 9:30p.m.
