The December meeting topic will be Bicycle Touring, and the non-profit organization that has done the most to promote travel by bicycle, the Adventure Cycling Association. ACA event staff person Lydia Meyer will talk about her bicycle touring experiences (beginning with riding with tent and sleeping bag from Holland to the Mackinac Bridge in 1982) including her Adventure Cycling Great Lakes Relaxed UP trip in September. Steve from The Outpost will bring bicycle camping equipment and demonstrate it’s use. Tim Meyer from Rock ‘n’ Road Cycle will bring a touring bike with bags, but also show how the bike you have now can be a touring bike too. Also included in the presentation will be Adventure Cycling’s catalog with it’s range of trips from TransAmerica self-contained to catered and van-supported family rides to touring and leadership courses. And as the meeting will be held near the corner of Riley and US Bike Route 35 we’ll cover ACA’s latest big project, the United States Bike Route System.
The meeting is this Monday night, December 5 at Turks Restaurant, Butternut (USBR-35) just North of Riley St., 8:00 PM. Come by early and enjoy a beverage and some snacks on the club! Board members will be on hand starting a 7:00 PM to chat about the club, take suggestions for making the club better or just talk about the sport we love.
