Our next monthly club meeting is next Tuesday 6/3/2008. The June meeting is from 8:00pm-9:00(ish) in the Game room at New Holland Brewery.
The new location is at 66 East 8th Street • Holland, Michigan 49423 - across from Curragh and Velo City Cycles .
June’s MCC membership meeting will be taking place in the Game Room at New Holland Brewery.
Our special guest speaker will be Leigh A. Sears PhD. Leigh will be discussing Basic nutrition for cyclists/athletes with an emphasis on carbohydrate and protein needs for before, during, and after competition and or training.
Leigh Sears joined the Hope College community in 2000 after a six year stint at Marietta College in Marietta OH. While at Marietta, Leigh was the women’s soccer coach and taught exercise physiology and basic nutrition. Leigh was a three sport athlete in soccer, basketball, and track at Ohio Wesleyan University. In 1991, Leigh was named an All-America midfielder and conference MVP in women’s soccer. While there she earned a BA in Physical Education and Health K-12 with a minor in Zoology. In 1994 she earned a Masters of Science degree in Exercise Science from Ithaca College, Ithaca NY. In 2007, she earned her PhD from The Ohio State University in Exercise Science while pursuing research on Body Image and Behavior in Division III Female Athletes. Sears is a full time professor in the department of Kinesiology and the Head Women’s Soccer Coach. She currently teaches Basic Nutrition as well as Nutrition and Athletic Performance. Past research has included sleep deprivation and skill performance, with her current line of research revolving around female athletes and how their body image affects their behavior.
The MCC Forums aren’t cooperating very well and some posts aren’t making it through while other posts are making it to the Forum site but generating an error message. I have an upgrade planned for the Forums but it may take me a few days to complete it. Your patience is appreciated.

Don’t forget that the Monday Night Ride will take place at 8:00 am this Monday! Keeping with our holiday tradition, the MNR moves to Monday morning this week. The Race and Sport rides routes will also be altered this week to our Hamilton route version. See you bright and early this Monday morning.

Event: The Ride of Silence
When: May 21, 2008, 7pm
Where: Holland Farmers Market / Civic Center parking lot (between 7th and 8th Streets, just west of Pine Avenue
Why:
- To mourn cyclists already killed by motorists
- To raise awareness(among motorists, police, and city officials)of cyclists on the road
- To have motorists know we only want to share the road we ride on
- To show that cyclists are not going away

Hot on the heels of the Monday Night Ride, the club will be starting up the Sweet Roll Ride this Saturday morning. As an added incentive to get you out of bed this weekend, your MCC President is buying the sweet rolls this week! The ride details are listed below. Ride Midpoint Stop Location: Morning Star Cafe (711 Washington Ave., Grand Haven)
Total Ride Miles: 36 miles
Ride Speed: May - 16-17mph average, June-September - 18 mph average
Note: In the case of bad weather a message will be posted to the Club Ride page on the Forum by 7am each Saturday morning if the ride is cancelled. No message there means that the ride is on!
