Holland Sentinel Article covering the recent MACC Meeting

There is a great article covering the September 28th Macatawa Area Coordinating Council’s 2007 Traffic Safety forum which our own Marshall Michmerhuizen took part in the panel discussion.

The full article can be read online at http://hollandsentinel.com/stories/092907/local_20070929003.shtml and there’s even a photo of Marshall in case you’ve never seen him without a cycling helmet on

Monday Night Ride: Shortened route and a change in direction…

[UPDATE: Sunday 10:00pm Revised link to map]

Due to diminishing daylight, we are shortening and changing up the Monday Night route for the rest of the season. The route is a shortened version of the Hamilton area route we have been riding for the last several weeks. A big change is that we will be heading out of town on 24th Street and then returning to town on Lincoln Avenue.

The new shortened and reversed route can viewed online right HERE via routeslip.com. Don’t forget the ride now departs at 6:00pm from the Holland Aquatic Center.

Please Attend This Very Important Meeting!

The Macatawa Area Coordinating Council (MACC) is hosting a forum September 28th to discuss the “rights/responsibilities of motorized and non-motorized users in the public right-of-way”.

Club board member and former President, Marshall Michmerhuizen has been invited to speak on behalf of our club and represent the voice of area cyclists in this forum. This is an opportunity for the club to help educate, inform, and communicate with local politicians and the public regarding the rights of cyclists to use the roads, the hazards of cycling on the non-motorized pedestrian pathways, and ways to improve safety between motorists and cyclists. As cyclist, there is potentially much at stake regarding our rights to use the roads and our responsibilities to use the roads safely.

The MCC encourages you to lend your voice to this discussion by attending this meeting and participating in the Q&A audience portion of the meeting. The meeting takes place at the Macatawa Bank, 139 E. 8th Street in Holland, in the Community Room from 8:30am-12:00pm and will be moderated by Representative Bill Huizenga. The panel discussion is scheduled for 9:15a.m.-10:30a.m.

Please attend this meeting if you are able and show our local politicians and the public that these issues are important to you! See you September 28th!
