Monday Night Ride is a wrap

The Monday Night Ride is a wrap until next spring!  Last night’s ride, if anyone went, was the last for the year. The weather didn’t work well for October, but spring will be here again soon.

Thanks to the ride leaders for their help and to Chris Davison who started this ride four years ago. It has become a staple part of the Holland riding scene and gets better every year.

We have a MCC meeting on the 7th of November. After you are done voting, join the meeting. 8:00 at the Macatawa Greenway offices.

Final Monday Night Ride of the season is tonight!

Monday Night Club RideThe last official Monday nigth ride of the season is tonight.  It’s going to be cool (~40 degrees) with a small chance of rain/snow but I think it will stay clear.

Monday October 23, 2006 - 6:00pm at the Holland Aquatic Center.

Upcoming Events: October/November 2006

The season is starting to wind down for some of us and for others the real season is just beginning.  There are some great events coming up in the next 45 days…. Here’s a rundown.

  • 10.21 Saturday Morning MCC Ride
The sprint ride has retired for the season but a late season MCC Group is still taking off from Velo City Cycles at 9:00am for 25-40 miles depending on the weather.  Mike Mortoff will lead the group.

  • 10.29 The immortal Pineapple Bob Ride.
This is a great gravel/road ride.  35-40 miles on as much bad pavement and gravel road as can be found.  Cross bikes or mountain bikes are recommended but any bike is welcome.  2:00 pm at Velocity cycles.
  • 11.07 MCC monthly meeting.
8:00 pm at the MacGreenway offices.  It’s also election day so don’t forget to vote!
  • 11.12 Chili-chilly Ride.
Another great annual event.  All road 25-35 miles, varies with weather.  Chili cook off afterwards. 2:00 pm at Velocity cycles.
  • 11.26 Kisscross Race at Ridge Point Church.
MCC will host again this year a cyclocross race at Ridge Point Church.  Last year went very well and we hope to exceed that this year.  The barn will again be used and we have plans for soup/chili to be available for all who race or come to watch. Within the Kiss Cross event, MCC will have an End of Year awards and say goodbye to the season.  This will be our last big gathering so we extend an invitation to all MCC members to join the day for food and fun.  We also will be handing out some awards for members of MCC.

Many members have given time, energy and commitment to the club.  If you have seen a member go above the call of duty please send us that name for consideration for Member of the Year.  E-mail any nominations to this address.
    .
Also, please send us some fun awards ideas.

  • Most mileage for the year - what was your total?
  • Best improved for 2006
  • Worst ride/best ride
    .
The race starts at 12:00 noon with the MCC stuff and around 1:00.  If you are interested in bringing chili or anything else for the day, all will be appreciated.

Welcome to the new MCC Website.

Welcome to the new MCC Website!  You first comment is likely that it looks pretty much the same as the old site and we agree completely and that was by design.  However, a lot behind the scenes has changed.

The site has moved from statically produced HTML pages to running on a common open source publishing product called Wordpress.  This will allow fellow club members to easily post notices to the front page of the website (like this one) without needing to know and understand HTML markup. This will allow multiple club members to administer the site and communicate to other members in a more timely fashion.

Ride Report: 2nd Annual Multi-Club Ride

MCCRapid Wheelmen
The second annual multi-club ride hosted by Macatawa Cycling Club, Rapid Wheelmen, and West Michigan Coast riders went off without a hitch yesterday afternoon.  We estimated attendance somewhere in the 60-70 rider range and considering the event is taking place in mid-October this year (versus Mid-August last year) combined with brisk 50 degree tempertures at the start yesterday, the event was a huge success!

Thanks to Mike Clark and all the fine folks at Velo City Cycles for hosting the start, finish, and post ride fellowship of all of the riders.

I managed to snap a few photo’s before the event officially set off.  You can view the photos here.

The Sweet Roll ride has rolled out of town for the year!

Sweet Rolls

The Sweet Roll ride has rolled out of town for the year!

Tom and Krisanne wish to thank all those who joined them on this fantastic and well attended ride, and they look forward to 2007.  Fun fact: If each Saturday riders ate 5 sweet rolls and there were 22 Saturdays, that’s 110, (as big as your face) rolls!

Still looking for a Saturday morning ride?  There will be a 9:00am ride departing from Velo-City Cycles in downtown Holland.  This is not the “Sprint Ride” but a casual ride of 25-40 miles depending on weather.  An opportunity for coffee time at JP’s after the ride for all club members who are interested.
